Software Engineer, Core Services

The Core Services team at OpenAI is responsible for building and managing foundational services that act as the bridge between core infrastructure and product engineering teams. We are seeking a full-time Software Engineer, Core Services to join our team in San Francisco, CA. In this role, you will design and operate critical backend platforms such as caching systems, workflow orchestration, metadata stores, and file services. You will focus on building highly reliable, scalable, and performant systems that serve as the backbone of our products, enabling product teams to move fast and scale efficiently. Your responsibilities include designing shared infrastructure layers using technologies like Temporal, collaboration with product teams to provide scalable primitives, and improving the performance and resilience of customer-facing applications. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with distributed systems, caching infrastructure like Redis or Memcached, and metadata storage solutions such as FoundationDB. OpenAI operates on a hybrid work model requiring 3 days in the office per week and offers relocation assistance. This position offers a competitive annual base salary ranging from $230,000 to $385,000 alongside comprehensive benefits.
