Software Engineer - Backend

At MotherDuck, we are on a mission to make data warehousing fun, frictionless, and ducking awesome for developers and data practitioners building blazing fast internal and customer-facing analytics experiences. We are seeking a full-time Backend Software Engineer to join our team in New York, NY on a hybrid basis. In this role, you will help MotherDuck scale the magic of DuckDB into the cloud by building distributed systems that power query execution, storage, access control, and other core platform capabilities. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include designing and implementing scalable backend services using Go, TypeScript, and C++, while evolving critical components related to metadata, authentication, and file visibility. You will optimize systems for performance, reliability, and fault tolerance in real-world production environments, collaborating closely with other engineers on architectural decisions and technical direction. Additionally, you will participate in customer support or production oncall rotations, and work alongside product and frontend teams to ensure cohesive user experiences. The ideal candidate possesses hands-on experience with distributed systems, familiarity with API design, observability practices, and production debugging, and brings a product-focused mindset to engineering.
