Full Stack Software Engineer

Chalk is building the data platform that powers the future of machine learning applications, tearing down complexity, latency, and scale barriers. We are hiring a full-time Full Stack Software Engineer to join our team on-site in San Francisco, CA. In this early-employee role, you will work directly with Chalk's co-founders to productionize our first iteration, tackling challenging engineering problems with a high degree of autonomy and ownership. You will be comfortable solving business problems across all layers of the software stack, building reliable data processing systems that operate performantly at scale with a laser-focus on developer experience. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include writing TypeScript, Python, Go, and React to build world-class user experiences across CLI and web surfaces, while exposing core platform functionality to data scientists and machine learning end-users. You will iterate rapidly in response to customer needs and contribute to a sophisticated codebase that incorporates ideas from compilers, query planners, and distributed systems. The ideal candidate will bring 4 or more years of professional software engineering experience, a strong foundation in computer science fundamentals, and a track record of developing sophisticated user-facing applications with a keen eye for high-quality UX.
